Our History
Brief history about the company, and our plans for the future.
The business carried on in this vein until WW2, when during development testing, it was noted that the engineering team started experiencing hearing loss and discomfort. The Air Ministry approached Horace’s son Jack Cullum to create a resolution, and thus the first Cullum ‘Detuner’ was born.
1950s
To support the growing demand for Aerospace testing, Cullum Detuners Limited was formed in 1959, with its primary focus on UK Defence and civil aerospace testing. As jet engine technology evolved during the Cold War, so did Cullum’s engineering solutions, and they continued to deliver products to the UK, USA and European Militaries.
1960s
During the late 1960s Cullum moved into supporting Industrial Gas turbines, supporting Gas compression and the Onshore/Offshore Energy Sectors. Around 80% of the UK Gas network is compressed using Cullum legacy equipment.
1980s
During the 1980’s Cullum supported the design, manufacture and delivery of the T9 and T10 Hush Houses into the USAF, via the support of in-country partners.

2000s
In 2020, the business incorporated Cullum-USA in Richmond, Virginia. The intention of this office was to better serve Cullum’s North American customer base and support the licensed supply of acoustic products into the Architectural marketplace.
NEWCO and Acquisitive growth
Cullum truly become a group in 2021, when the business acquired EMS Industries Limited, who are based in Stoke on Trent. EMS deliver innovative pumping solutions to the Water and Biomass sector.
The Group acquired Jade Insulation Limited in March 2024, who like EMS provide trace heating and lagging solutions to the Water, Biomass and Industrial Sectors. They also provide the traditional UK business with cladding and insulation services.
In October 2024 the Group acquired AGS Noise Control Ltd (including AGS Materials Ltd and Noise Seal Ltd), to support dedicated elements of the Acoustic market place. AGS support audiology and acoustic products across the UK and Ireland.
In January 2025, a formal group structure was adopted, with all assets aligning under Cullum Detuners Investments Limited (The Group), which the Board of Directors deemed a more suitable and lower risk approach to support the sustained growth.
